COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides an in depth review of cardiovascular and pulmonary (CVP) pathophysiology for the commonly seen CVP diagnoses including medical management and medications. Diagnostic testing for CVP diseases will be discussed to determine how to analyze these findings and understand the PT implications. Participants will learn about AV blocks, sinus, atrial, and ventricular rhythm’s and how to interpret these on telemetry monitors. Clinical tips will be assimilated into all course material for direct application to daily patient care experiences. You will learn acute interventions for adult CVP patients including primary and secondary prevention for CVD, breathing and airway clearance exercises/techniques, exercise prescription, and advanced interventions for complex CVP patients. This course also provides a comprehensive study of how CVP outcome measures can be utilized in the rehabilitation setting to assist with case management, discharge recommendations, assessment of deficits, and progression of the treatment plan. Content is based on evidence and is designed to allow direct application to the Practitioner’s clinical practice.

Level of Education: Intermediate – Advanced

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to independently:

  1. Explain the pathophysiology of 3 commonly seen CVP diseases,
  2. Interpret 3 CVP diagnostic tests,
  3. Perform a thorough chest exam,
  4. Design a beathing and airway clearance program for patients with CVP disease,
  5. Select, administer and analyze 3 CVP outcomes measures,
  6. Identify sinus, atrial, ventricular rhythms and AV blocks on telemetry monitors,
  7. Develop an exercise prescription for patients with CVP disease,
  8. Define ARDS and respiratory failure, and integrate treatment approaches to improve patient performance,
  9. Analyze the impact of ventilation on the respiratory muscles, and incorporate inspiratory muscle training into treatment options for appropriate CVP patients.
