Course Description: Do you work in an outpatient clinic or in Home Health and see patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary (CVP) disease? As the population ages, these diseases are more and more common. CVP diseases can be difficult to manage and can interfere with the treatment plan by limiting participation or preventing the patient from successfully working toward goals. This course provides an up to date pathophysiology review for the commonly seen CVP diseases. You will learn the purpose, requirements and billing for outpatient rehabilitation for patients with CVP diseases. You will acquire outpatient rehabilitation treatment techniques for adult patients with CVP disease including: primary and secondary prevention for CVD, breathing and airway clearance exercises/techniques and advanced interventions for complex CVP patients. Participants will learn why and how to conduct exercise tests and create exercise prescriptions for adult patients with CVP diseases. This course also provides a comprehensive study of how CVP outcome measures can be utilized in the rehabilitation setting to assist with case management, discharge recommendations, assessment of deficits, and progression of the treatment plan. Clinical tips will be assimilated into all course material and content is based on evidence and is designed to allow direct application to the Practitioner’s clinical practice.

Level of Education: Intermediate – Advanced

Course Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to independently:

  1. Explain the pathophysiology of commonly seen CVP diseases,
  2. Perform a chest exam and alter the performance of the fragile CVP patient with breathing and airway clearance techniques,

  4. State primary and secondary prevention recommendations, including exercise prescription principles for cardiac patients,
